AEO for B2B SaaS: how to make content useful in AI search
Answer-engine optimisation is not a separate hack. For B2B SaaS, it means publishing the clearest, most original, technically accessible answer to a meaningful buyer question.
The short answer: make pages indexable, state the answer early, support it with original proof, structure the reasoning clearly, and measure qualified discovery—not just rankings.
What AEO is—and is not
AI search systems surface supporting sources while helping a person work through complex questions. That increases the value of content that offers a real point of view, first-hand evidence, and clear explanations.
AEO is not writing hundreds of pages for every phrasing of a keyword. It is not an llms.txt file. It is not hidden keyword blocks or FAQ markup pasted onto every page. Those shortcuts create commodity content, which is exactly what a serious B2B buyer does not need.
The AEO page anatomy
| ELEMENT | WHAT IT MUST DO |
|---|---|
| Title and opening answer | State the decision the reader is making and answer it without a long preamble. |
| Original proof | Add a framework, operator perspective, examples, data, or research readers cannot get from a generic summary. |
| Clear sections | Use descriptive headings so the page can be scanned by a person and interpreted by a search system. |
| Visible sources | Cite external evidence and distinguish it from Wise Mango’s own view. |
| Useful media | Add diagrams, tables, a video, or a downloadable tool when they genuinely improve understanding. |
| Internal links | Connect the question to its prerequisite and next-step guides. |
Technical readiness comes first
Search cannot surface content it cannot find, crawl, or index. The library needs clean URLs, an XML sitemap, a crawlable internal-link structure, canonical URLs, meaningful titles and descriptions, mobile readability, and valid structured data that describes what visitors can actually see.
Structured data can support rich-result eligibility; it cannot force inclusion in a result or an AI answer. Use Article, Breadcrumb, Organization, and Person markup accurately. Do not use misleading schema.
Where to find source material
- Repeated objections from sales and discovery.
- Implementation trade-offs from delivery work.
- Customer interviews and support conversations, anonymised appropriately.
- Public teardowns based on observable information.
- Original small-sample research with a transparent method.
Measure AEO like a business asset
Track search impressions and clicks in Search Console, then connect them to engaged visits, tool use, email subscriptions, and assisted conversions in analytics. A page that brings fewer but highly relevant visitors can be more valuable than a high-traffic generic explainer.
